RANGES/OVENS
Most ovens contain self-cleaning cycles. The outside of your stove or oven can be cleaned with a non-abrasive household cleaner or baking soda sprinkled on a damp cloth or sponge. The manufacturer may also have a special appliance cleaner that both cleans and protects against stains. If your burner panel or oven front is stainless steel, it’s possible that you could use a stainless steel cleaner. These are just suggestions, contact the manufacturer for steps to care for and clean your appliances. Never use harsh, abrasive cleaners on the outside of stoves or ovens.
Do not wait too long between cleanings. A heavily soiled oven may require a household cleaner. It’s important to choose a non-corrosive and non-toxic cleaner and be sure to follow the instructions and cautions carefully.
Electric
Electric ranges usually have a separate circuit than the other appliances. If the range is not working, check the proper circuit before calling in for service.
Gas
If you have a gas range and the burner fails to light, make sure power is getting to the electric ignition. If the range has a pilot light, make sure it is lit. If the pilot light is lit and the ignition is getting electricity and the range still fails to light, there may be a clogged burner. If the burners are removable, they can be soaked in a solution of washing soda, but do not soak them in an aluminum pan. If there is burned food particles in the holes of the gas burners, use a wire brush or thin wire to clean but be careful not to push the particles further into the holes. If you suspect the gas is leaking, turn the main valve off and call the gas company immediately. WARNING: Do not light matches, smoke cigarettes, or use your phone or electrical switches if you suspect a gas leak.
Range Hoods
The filters in range hoods need to be cleaned or changed periodically. Consult the instruction manual for location and directions.
Microwave Ovens
For safety and use, please read the owner’s manual. Some containers and utensils can permanently damage microwave ovens, make sure you only use those that are microwavable.
Removing spatters and drips can easily be done by using a damp cloth. Some greasy spatters may require a sudsy cloth and rinse. Never use a commercial oven cleaner on any part of your microwave oven. Also, do not use abrasives such as cleaning powders or steel and/or plastic pads as this could scratch the surface.
In order to clean the exterior, wipe the control panel with a damp cloth and be sure to dry it thoroughly. Do not use cleaning sprays, an abundance of soap and water, abrasives, or any sharp objects on the control panel.
